This year, following tradition, the Scioto Valley Chapter of the Ninety Nines again held their Anniversary Banquet in the second-floor party room of the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant, overlooking runway 28L at Port Columbus. We had a respectable turnout of 23 members and guests for dinner.
As in past years at this restaurant, we had an outstanding variety of entree choices including beef, chicken, fish, shellfish, and vegetarian dishes, all at reasonable prices. We could pre-choose from this list of 14 different entrees: General's Prime Rib or Sergeant's Prime Rib, New York Strip Steak, Filet and Scampi, Farmhouse Chicken, Chicken Dijonaise, Chicken Marsala, Teriyaki Chicken, Fresh Atlantic Salmon, Crab Stuffed Flounder, Penne Pomodoro, Vegetable Stir Fry, Shrimp & Scallop Penne, and Lobster & Shrimp Linguine. As always, all the food was delicious, well-prepared, and nicely served.
Jim and Jo-Ann Prater brought place cards showing each person's name and the choice of entree, which smoothed things well for the servers. It eliminated that awkward series of questions about "Who ordered ...", and the embarrassing silence when we forgot what we'd signed up for. :-[

March 11, 2009 Jo-Ann Prater sliced the cake expertly with a stretched string. The design in the icing is a photographically accurate replica of the Compass Rose which the chapter has painted on many airport ramps in three different states over the years. |

March 11, 2009 The chapter banquet occupied four tables in the second-floor party room, all with good views of the Runway 28L air-traffic operations framed nicely through the large picture windows. |

Beyond the social aspects of the chapter's Anniversary Dinner, a seriously important additional function is to award aviation scholarships to deserving women, according to the chapter rules and to the wishes of the members and former members who have endowed the chapter with scholarship funds. This year, the chapter was pleased to award three such scholarships, all going to current student pilots to help them in their progress to their Private Pilot Rating. March 11, 2009 Dawn Valasco and Fleda Anderson each received an award of the Chad Countiss Memorial Scholarship. Both Dawn and Fleda have been active associate members of the chapter, and we congratulate them both on qualifying for this scholarship assistance. |

March 11, 2009 Meredith Frederick, an Ohio State University student in Aerospace Engineering, was this year's winner of the Alice Jackson Memorial Scholarship Award. Meredith is new to the chapter at this time, so we look forward to hearing her stories and her anecdotes as she moves along through her flight training curriculum. Congratulations, Meredith, and welcome to the group. |
