UP, UP and AWAY
Terri-I
flew cross-country to Sidney, Ohio and to Sporty’s.
Connie and Ray Copeland flew son-in-law's
nephew Mark around the northern part of Ohio. We made a loop to Toledo, Lake
Erie, past Cleveland and then south to Don Scott airport. He enjoyed the trip
and tracked it on the Ohio aviation map we gave him.
Minutes of the April 10, 2002 meeting
The meeting was called to order by
Marilynn Miller.
Present at the meeting were Carol
Countiss, Janet Barnard, Vicky Gibbons, Jo-Ann Prater, Terri Vrbancic, Tracy
Hahn, Paula Rumbaugh, Myra Jamison, Constance Copeland, and Marilynn Miller.
The March minutes were accepted as
written.
The treasurers’ report was read by
Marilynn and accepted.
Marilynn asked Myra for our chapter
scrapbook to take to the North Section meeting. She urged members to go to the
meeting to help sell the embroidered shirts and enjoy the rest of the 99’s at
the meeting.
Marilynn reported that the company who
did the shirts goofed and used gold thread instead of navy and vice versa on 20
shirts. They offered them to us at $20 apiece. There were 11 large and 9 extra
large shirts. Myra made a motion to buy the shirts. Carol seconded it and the
motion was passed.
A motion was made to donate $50 to a
NIFA fund for the top woman pilot in the next NIFA meet. The north Central
section is hoping to raise $1000 for the award. Connie made the motion and
Jo-Ann seconded it. The motion passed.
Anyone wishing to be a NIFA judge for
the meet please contact Marilynn for an application.
Jo-Ann reported on the Right-Seat
Companion course. Paula has 3 instructors and needs more. Vicky Gibbons (a guest
and an alumni of the Right-Seat Companion course) decided to sign up for the
flying part.
We were sad to hear the Barbara Deeds’
mother-in-law had died April 9.
The Compass Rose painting date was set
for Sept. 27-29 at the Canon City airport, Colorado. Jo-Ann said she and Jim
would be the host and hostess at the Casa Del Gavilan the week starting Oct. 1
if anyone wanted to stay over.
At the end of May and the first part of
June, Wexner Center has a program called Cockpit voice recordings. The cost is
unknown. Jo-Ann Prater suggested we meet for dinner and performance.
Before our meeting, Scott Good and Rick Lever of the Med-flight team of pilots gave us a good tour through their facilities. We toured offices, a King air, a helicopter and ambulances. Along the way we heard great stories of their rescues and how it was cost effective to use the helicopters. They convinced me. They told of their flight in the King Air on Sept. 12, 2001 to Maine and then south past the tower of smoke of the Twin Towers. They had a military escort part of the way but no traffic and direct flights all the way. On the way back they again passed New York City and the Pennsylvania crash site.
Thank-you Marilynn for a great idea for a program.
