Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s April 9, 2003 meeting

Up, Up, and Away

Dana Rogers flew commercial to Los Angeles and then on to Oahu, Hawaii  the last week in March.

Mary Biller flew commercial to Hawaii and took a helicopter tour of Kauai in late February –early March.

P-38 trip to IAG Murpheysboro, KY in Glenn Sproat’s Moony M20G.  There were 3 pilots on board…Glenn, Joanne Austin, and Janet Barnard.  We flew to see the “Glacier Girl” that was rescued from Greenland in 1992 and restored to original condition.  It was a great flight, all 3 pilots flew, and Janet got some “hood” time in Glenn’s complex airplane.

Janet Barnard has been flying to many local airports, Belfontaine, Madison Co, Greene Co, Highland Co, Blue Ash, Lunken, etc.   She also flew a longer cross-country to Port Clinton.

While in Florida, Woody and Janie McIntire flew some local trips and also landed at the airport where John Travolta is building his new estate.

Joanne Austin spoke to EAA Chapter 382 in Greene County (I19) in March about the history and activities of the 99s.

Marjorie Anderson flew commercial to Gulfport, MS to visit friends/co-workers with whom she worked 30 years ago.  Then she flew to Corpus Christi, TX on business and back home to Columbus.  A wonderful trip, complete with the excitement of a chemical spill adjacent to the airport in Gulfport, which necessitated a trip to New Orleans for an alternate flight plan.

Women in Aviation was having their conference in Cincinnati over the weekend of March 22, 2003. A reception was arranged by one of the Greater Cincinnati 99s to honor Galina Beltsova Brok, a Russian champion aerobatic pilot, and Galina Korchuganova, a Russian bomber pilot in World War II.  Click here for a photograph, showing (left to right) Marilynn Miller, Galina Brok, and Galina Korchuganova.  The reception was held at the home of Robbin Russell. Many well-known names in aviation attended as well as three WASPs, Betty Turner, Nadine Nagel and Caro Bayley. Marilynn Miller and Janet Barnard were thrilled to be among those invited to attend and meet these extraordinary ladies.
