Up, Up, and Away

Constance and Ray Copeland flew to Waukesha for lunch with son and family. Talk about an expensive hamburger!

Janie and Woody McIntire flew back to Ohio on April 1 from Florida. We made several trips for sight seeing while in Florida, as well as visiting friends and family.

Marjorie Anderson flew commercial to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX to observe her son, Jonathon’s, graduation from Basic Military Training! Following this, we enjoyed the static aviation display, especially the P-S1.

Mary Biller flew to Urbana for lunch in a Supercub and while there toured the B-17 restoration taking place on the field. Mary also received her high-performance endorsement..

Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Marjorie Anderson.

Attendance: Marilynn Miller, Marjorie Anderson, Constance Copeland, Janie McIntire, Jann Bowne, Myra Jamison, Paula Rumbaugh, Paula Hook, Abby Rice, Jo-Ann Prater, Mary Biller.

Minutes of Previous Meeting: The minutes of the February meeting were approved as distributed in the newsletter.

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer's Report stands approved as read.

Announcements:

  1. Mid-Winter Meeting - Paula Hook was our delegate for this meeting presented by the Three Rivers Chapter. She relayed the following announcements:
    o Fly for Breast Cancer Cure – we can establish our own event
    o Spinning Prop Award – Given for the highest number of non-compensated general aviation hours flown from March 1st to February 28th of any year. Must submit copies of logbook.
    o AE Scholarship – Ellen Herring discussed the reasons some applications are eliminated. See Paula Hook for details.
    o Insurance – Cynthia Madsen discussed which events require insurance.
    o NIFA – Taking place at Ohio State University Airport May 8 – 13. Details in Waypoint.
    o 99s Website – Would like to see links to each section then to each chapter
    o Waypoint – Talking about producing three issues per year rather than four to save money.
    o Charlene Falkenberg’s surprise birthday party
    o Discussed ways to boost attendance at Section Meetings
    o Chicago to host the 2009 International Convention
  2. Jann Bowne made a presentation to the Girl Scouts for their Aerospace Day 2006 at the GE Test Facility. There were 60 – 70 people in attendance. Jann said the 10-11 year old girls, mostly from Kentucky, treated her like a celebrity! She received a shirt, patch and money in appreciation.
  3. Honduras update: Jo-Ann Prater is collecting much-needed supplies. The clinic is in need of and autoclave and for cloth to wrap instruments in to put into the autoclave. Jo-Ann would like to produce strips of fabric with stitched edges to hold the instruments. It was suggested that she check with a high school counselor as an idea for a senior project.
  4. Jo-Ann Prater announced that the Wexner Center has reopened and is currently featuring a free exhibit called Extreme Textiles.

New Business:

  1. Spring Section Meeting, Kansas City, MO – April 28 – 30.
  2. Marjorie Anderson, Marilynn Miller, Paula Rumbaugh and Mary Biller attended the meeting as delegates. They handed out magnets as reminders of our Fall Section Meeting. Marilynn won the Governor’s Award and our chapter won a prize for attendance.
  3. Nominating Committee:  Nominations for new officers:
    Myra Jamison – Chairman
    Jann Bowne – Vice Chairman
    Mary Biller – Secretary
    Charma Huddy - Treasurer
    Paula Rumbaugh asked that the slate of officers be accepted. All were in favor, and the slate was accepted. Paula Hook moved that the secretary cast a unanimous ballot for the slate of officers. Jo-Ann seconded the motion. All were in favor. The new officers will be installed in May and start their new terms in June.
