Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s April 8, 2009 meeting

Up, Up, and Away

Jann Bowne went with friends on a bird watching trip to Costa Rica. She flew commercial but checked out a strip near one of the resorts. It was in perfect condition, but with a constant crosswind off the Gulf is probably a little tricky to land on.

Although she wasn’t PIC, Teresa Freeman went up twice in March with husband Michael. She let him have the left seat since he has been near Cleveland Monday – Thursday for ten hour days of checkout on a control system for a powerplant. Also, at her employer (DuPont in Circleville), she was chosen to give the April safety meetings. She is going over aeronautical decision making, checklists, and sharing pictures of her preflighting her airplane. She is ending the meeting with the theme “Flying is Fun” and tells her co-workers how to safely enjoy a flight in a small airplane.

In January, Marjorie and Jack Anderson enjoyed “Glitter and Glow” in Glendale, Arizona—tethered hot air balloons amidst the twinkling lights in Glendale.

New member Christine Mortine reportes that she is “kissing” the instrument rating – hopefully the next time she sees us it will be done! This April was her first time piloting for Young Eagles, and she thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
