Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s August 14, 2002 meeting

The meeting was called to order by Paula Rumbaugh, Vice Chairman.

In attendance were Terri Vrbancic, Tracy Hahn (guest), Constance Copeland, Janet Barnard, Joanne Austin, Myra Jamison, Wendy Yost, Janie McIntire, Charma Huddy, Paula Rumbaugh, Marilynn Miller, and Marjorie Anderson.

The minutes of the July meeting were amended to include spelling corrections as follows:  Keil, Xenia, and Chairman, rather than President.  Marilynn Miller moved to accept the minutes as amended.  Charma Huddy seconded and so moved.

Janie McIntire provided the current treasurer’s report.  Myra Jamison moved to accept the report as presented and Wendy Yost seconded and so moved.

Paula will be updating the roster to share with membership for any corrections.

Old Business

·         Janie has opened a checking account at Bank One.  Betty Obara will be the additional signer.  Then, Janie will be closing the current account at US Bank.

·         Debra Sutor has audited our treasurer’s books and written a letter certifying the accuracy.

·         Marilynn discussed the possibility of purchasing a brick at Amelia Earhart’s home at a cost of $100 to honor  the contributions of Mary Ellen Keil.  Marjorie Anderson moved and Connie Copeland seconded and so moved.

·         Update on painting the compass rose in Colorado:  Connie, Ray, Marilynn, Marjorie, Myra, and Abby will be traveling to Canon City, Colorado.  Bev, a former Scioto Valley 99, is to arrange for the brushes, paint, etc, which we will need.  All members are encouraged to participate in this fun event!

New Business

·         Alice Jackson Scholarship:  Discussion centered around scholarship recipients who have returned their awards due to funds being insufficient for their training needs.  Discussed the possibility of requiring a minimum of ten hours of flight time prior to applying for the scholarship.  Prior experience can serve as a filter to be certain of the recipient’s commitment to  this process.  Charma Huddy agreed to assume temporary chair of the Scholarship Committee during Janie’s absence during the winter months.  Wendy Yost and Marjorie Anderson agreed to serve with Charma on this committee.

·         Air Race Classic:  As a group, we are proposing a stop in Dayton for the 2003 race route.  Joanne Austin and Janet Barnard are to explore the possibility of having the racing pilots stop at Wright Brothers’ Airport in Dayton, since this is the Centennial Year for Aviation.  Our chapter is to ask the other Ohio Chapters to assist us in providing food, travel to hotels, and other support services from sunrise to sunset on the day of the stop.  We need to ensure fuel availability as well.

·         Congratulations were extended to Paula and Hal in their upcoming marriage on Sunday,  August 18, 2002!

Paula moved to adjourn the meeting and Connie seconded and so moved.

Meeting adjourned.

Up, Up, and Away

Tracy Hahn braved the first flight with Terri Vrbancic after Terri got her private pilot’s license.  They flew to Delaware (DLZ) from Bolton (TZR).

Connie and Ray Copeland flew commercial to Japan.  They hiked up to 11,000 feet on Mt. Fuji, spent some time in Nikko, Tokyo, Kamakura, and Enosihima.  Great trip!  The midnight sunshine over Alaska and sunrise on Mt. Fuji were awesome!

Janie and Woody McIntire visited friends in Michigan for the weekend and landed at the local airport.

Respectfully Submitted,

Marjorie Anderson, Secretary
