Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s August 13, 2008 meeting
Up, Up, and Away
Janie and Woody have flown to Urbana and Neil Armstrong Airport several times
this past month.
Paula Rumbaugh and Amy Yersavich went on their annual flying/play
watching/shopping/eating trip to Stratford Canada the first weekend of August.
Weather was wonderful! No IFR filing flying to or from Stratford - that is a
first for Amy and Paula in their annual Canadian travels!
Jann and George flew to Nemacolin Woodland Resort (PA88) in Pennsylvania for a
couples weekend. Then they packed up their camping equipment and flew to EAA
Airventure in Oshkosh for four days. Way to go Jann and George!!
Paula Hook and Lori Robishaw flew commercial to the International 99s Conference
in Anchorage, Alaska. We hope they will both return in time for the September
Chapter meeting!
Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Jann Bowne.
Attendance: Jo-Ann Prater, Charma Huddy, Gail Dean, Marilynn Miller, Amy
Yersavich, Jann Bowne, Constance Copeland, Ann Egan, Joan Mace, Mary Biller,
Paula Hook, Janie McIntire.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: Janie McIntire made a correction to the
minutes under old business and noted that the Delaware EAA pancake breakfast was
scheduled for August 23, not August 16. She moved to accept the meeting minutes
as amended, and Marjorie Anderson seconded the motion. All were in favor.
Treasurer’s Report: Paula Hook gave the treasurer’s
report. All the 99 aprons ordered have been paid for.
Committee Chairs: Jann announced that Connie Copeland has agreed to
serve as membership chair, and Amy Yersavich will take over the scrapbook. We
still need someone to take over publicity, e.g., send in notice of our chapter
activities to NCS for the “Waypoint” and to International for The 99 News.
Report of Standing Committees:
- Airmarking:
Jo-Ann reported that the compass rose painting at Delaware Airport (DLZ)
went very well. There was a good turnout and they finished in short order.
- Publicity:
Jann reported that Dawn Valasco agreed to be the Publicity Chair for
the S.V. Chapter.
Old Business:
- Charma reported that she contacted City BBQ about eating at their
restaurant and raising money for our Chapter.
Janie talked about the DLZ Fly-In coming up this weekend. She said we have
enough volunteers to man our 99s booth both Saturday and Sunday. Marjorie
Anderson is to bring the 99s display for the booth and Jann is bringing 99
brochures and other 99 handouts. Paula Hook is bringing the travel mugs and
aprons to sell during the Fly-In. Janie reported that Rich Packer has agreed
to donate a Stearman ride and another pilot has agreed to donate an aerobatic
ride. We will sell raffle tickets during the Fly-In for these rides.
- Paula Hook and Lori Robishaw attended the 99s International meeting in
Alaska. Since Lori hadn’t returned from Alaska, Paula said that they would
save their report about the meeting until the September Chapter meeting.
- It was reported that our own Chapter member, Joan Mace, and another CFI,
Don Fairbanks, were the only two CFIs to be inducted in to the CFI Hall of
Fame this year.
New Business:
- Gail Dean asked the Chapter about the possibility of having a monthly
Chapter meeting at a time other than a Wednesday evening. She would like to
schedule a tour of the CMH tower for the Oct meeting but they only offer tours
during business hours Monday thru Friday (possibly Saturday daytime too). Jann
suggested possibly setting up a Bolton tower tour instead since she believes
they can possibly handle a tour in the evening hours.
- The Chapter voted to pay $5 for hard copy Waypoint subscriptions for each
S.V. 99 member who does not have access to e-mail (the $5 charge is for those
Waypoint subscribers who cannot obtain their issue electronically).
- Paula Hook mentioned that the 2009 International Meeting will be held in
Chicago and our Chapter is responsible for making the posters and signage
needed at the meeting.
Announcements:
- Last Chance to “register” with Jo-Ann Prater! For the La Casa trip
September 19-21. Call or e-mail Jo-Ann ASAP if you plan to go. Don’t miss out
on this wonderful opportunity to visit an area that is one of true “gems” of
the Southwest!!
- Gail Dean is hosting our October meeting and is planning a tour of the CMH
tower! She has received confirmation from the FAA that we can have a tour on
October 8 at 7pm. Please let Gail know if you can attend at the September
meeting since she needs to get a head count. If you can’t make the September
meeting and want to attend the tour, e-mail Gail at
dean.16@wright.edu.
- Thanks to all the 99s and 49 ½ ers that helped out with the fun Delaware
happenings this summer! First was the compass rose painting at DLZ in July and
then the 99s booth at the Delaware Airport Fly-In in August. Almost all the
donated bottled water and many 99 aprons and travel mugs were sold and will
replenish the Chapter’s treasury/scholarship funds!
Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Ami Yersavich, Secretary stand-in
