Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Mary Biller, who ran the meeting in
Jann Bowne’s absence.
Attendance: Joanne Austin, Paula Hook, Connie Copeland, Janet Barnard,
Marjorie Anderson, Jo-Ann Prater, Myra Jamison, Meredith Frederick, Dawn Valasco,
Paula Rumbaugh, Marilynn Miller, Mary Biller, and Lori Robishaw.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: The minutes of the July meeting were
approved as distributed.
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report was presented
by Paula Hook.
Report of Standing Committees:
- Airmarking:
• No updates.
- Scholarship:
• No updates. The committee will look at
how much money we currently have for scholarships and how much we need to
raise for future awards.
- Right Seat
Companion:
• Paula Rumbaugh reported that we had
secured seven instructors so far, but no students as of yet. We also have one
ground school instructor in addition to Amy Yersavich.
• Meredith Frederick was going to help publicize the seminar in the OSU
Airport newsletter and on their website.
• We
have received our certificate of insurance from 99s headquarters. There was a
question about allowing a 15-year-old to participate, and Lori Robishaw said
she would contact The 99s legal counsel to find out if we could do so.
Old Business:
- International Conference:
• Paula H. attended the
conference and reported that there had been a quorum at the business meeting.
The meeting went over the four hours allotted due to much discussion and had
to reconvene to get through the agenda.
• By-Law #2 caused the most
discussion, and the proposed changes were passed, except that the academic
member category was retained.
• By-Law #1 regarding the expulsion of
members was also passed, as were all the rest of the standing rules, which was
in keeping with how the chapter voted.
• Paula said there were door prizes for all attendees and they visited
the Drake Hotel, which was the site of the first 99s conference. We sold four
aprons at the Fly Mart, and she attended a workshop on fundraising and got
good ideas about projects that might be less labor intensive but bring in more
money. She also noted that two members from the North Central Section received
AE Scholarships and that section member Ellen Herring was elected to the AE
Scholarship Board.
• Next year’s conference is in Hawaii!
New Business: (none)

The Mid Eastern Regional Fly-In will be held in Urbana Ohio at Grimes on
Saturday September 12 through Sunday, September 13. Admission tickets can be
purchased on site: $6 per adult, kids 12 and under free. Camping is available
for those who want to stay both days and want to save on hotel costs. For more
information on what looks to be a wonderful fly-in and forum, go to the MERFI
Website at www.MERFI.com.
-
Jo-Ann noted that the new film entitled Amelia, starring Hilary Swank, was
opening some time this fall, and we should consider doing something around the
film’s opening weekend. Lori said she would find out the actual date and report
back at the next meeting.
-
Chapter members were reminded that our future meetings will be held at the OSU
Airport in the Administration Building either in the classroom or conference
room, which are next to each other. Hostesses were reminded that pre-meeting
dining options will need to be altered since we’re now on the other side of the
airport from where we had previously been meeting. It was thought that those
restaurants in the Bethel/Sawmill area will probably be good choices.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Lori Robishaw, Secretary
