Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s February 13, 2008 meeting
Up, Up, and Away
Jann and George Bowne flew commercial to the island of Roatan, Honduras on
vacation. It was the first time they’d ever been on a large commercial airplane
that had to back taxi on the runway to get to the terminal!
Fleda flew on Skybus to Chattanooga, TN and via Southwest to Sedona, AZ.
Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Myra Jamison.
Attendance: Myra Jamison, Marjorie Anderson, Lori Robishaw, Paula
Rumbaugh, Fleda Anderson, Jann Bowne, Paula Hook, Charma Huddy, Jo-Ann Prater,
Gail Dean, Mary Biller Guests: Ann Egan, Joan Mace. 49 1/2s: Ray Copeland, Jack
Anderson, Bill Reay.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: Lori Robishaw motioned to make a
correction to the January meeting minutes. The meeting time stated in the
newsletter was incorrect and needs to be changed from 7:00 to 7:30. Jann Bowne
requested an addition to the January meeting minutes. She received an email from
Janie McIntire asking if the group would like to participate in a fly-in at
Delaware Airport on August 16-17, 2008 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the
City. There was discussion and it was decided that we would like to have a table
at the event to sell raffle tickets and merchandise. We will also help out as
needed.
Treasurer’s Report: Charma Huddy gave the treasurer’s report.
Charma passed around a 99s coin the chapter received for a making a donation to
the Museum of Women Pilots. She also received letters from both the Museum and
the Endowment Fund (we sent $500 to each). Charma asked if we would like to
consider raffling the coin as a fund-raiser.
Chapter membership dues are due next month.
Report of Standing Committees:
- Airmarking:
Jo-Ann Prater was informed that a compass rose was painted at Coshocton
Airport two years ago. She will look for another opportunity.
- Scholarship:
The Scholarship Committee reviewed two scholarship applications. Both
applicants will receive an award.
- Merchandise:
The committee suggested travel mugs and aprons as possible items to sell. The
mugs would read, “I’d rather be flying” to appeal to more people. The aprons
are unisex. Some would have the 99s logo and some would have the saying “I’d
rather be flying.” The proceeds will go to scholarships for women pilots.
Old Business:
- Name Badges:
We discussed whether or not we needed permission to use the 99s logo for
our name badges. It was decided that we would not need permission since we are
not planning to sell them.
- Anniversary Dinner:
Jo-Ann Prater is collecting dinner reservations for our annual dinner at the
94th Aerosquadron March 13, 20008. Marilynn Miller is Jo-Ann’s backup while
she is in the Honduras, returning March 3. Please let Marilynn know if you are
planning to attend along with your menu choice. Jo-Ann was told we can no
longer bring a cake into the restaurant.
New Business:
- Congratulations:
Congratulations Marjorie Anderson! Marjorie thanked everyone who
volunteered for massages and helped her become a board-certified reflexologist.
- NCS Election:
Members should have received ballots for the NCS election. International
ballots will be mailed March 1 and must be returned by May 1.
- 99s International Meeting:
Lori Robishaw will be attending the international conference in Anchorage,
Alaska this fall. She is also going on a cruise with fellow 99s. The proceeds
of the cruise will benefit the Museum of Women Pilots.
- Air Race Classic:
The race starts will take place from June 24-27, 2008. The race begins in
Bozeman, MT and ends in Mansfield, MA.
- Scioto Valley Business Cards:
New cards have been printed – everyone is welcome to take some.
