Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s January 12, 2005 meeting

Up, Up, and Away

Paula Rumbaugh and Hal flew commercially to South Africa for the holidays, to visit Hal’s daughter, Romy, and her husband, Michal, who live in Johannesburg. Three wonderful weeks of warm sunshine (punctuated with incredible thunderstorms) and relaxation (punctuated with sightseeing, hiking, and a safari) were just what the doctor ordered for Paula’s healing Achilles tendon.

On Sunday, Jan. 4, Ray and Constance Copeland flew commercially to Tampa to visit Janie and Woody McIntire. They were great hosts, and we really got to visit a lot of that area of Florida. Janie and Woody say to come on down!

Marjorie Anderson flew commercially with 49-1/2er Jack to Ft. Lauderdale to visit their daughter in Grassy Key. They celebrated her birthday on Thanksgiving Day, then swam on Friday with dolphins Tanner and Santini at the Dolphin Research Center. On Saturday, they flew over the Keys in an open-cockpit WACO. Marjorie writes that “Each day was an awesome adventure!”

Jann Bowne flew to Clermont County in Dec. for the Plane & Pilot GPS Treasure Chest contest. There were headsets as the first 5 prizes, and she was no. 6! She did win the comm 1 VFR communication DVD. {Editor's note: Winners 2 & 3 in the same contest were Glenn Sproat and Joanne Austin, both of whom won Lightspeed Headsets.  Congratulations to all!}

Paula is finally airborne again, after a 4-month hiatus due to her Achilles tendon surgery. ‘Bout time! Her leg and foot muscles are performing on the brakes and rudder as required.
