Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s July 9, 2003 meeting

Up, Up, and Away

Glenn and I [Joanne Austin] flew to the Wings Weekend at Hamilton (Butler Co.) in his Mooney with the new windows. (You should ask Joanne how easy that was).  We heard a rare speech by Neil Armstrong, who talked about the Wright brothers and inventing flight 100 years ago.

Ray Copeland  (minus Connie) flew 5 Japanese visitors around Ohio for a grand tour of Ohio and over Canada. Each passenger had about 0.5 hrs. in the right seat.  Three of the passengers had helped us climb on Mt Fuji last summer.  Of the remaining Japanese one was an ex-Japanese Air Force Pilot.  They were in town for an IEEE conference on Antennas.

Meeting Minutes

Present were Paula Hook, Mary Biller, Janie McIntire, Constance Copeland, Terri Vrbancic, Myra Jamison, Joanne Austin, Betty Obara, Dana Rogers, and Marilynn Miller.

Betty Obara began our meeting with her program.   Our meeting room was filled with computers, thanks to Med Flight.  She gave us a sampling of the NASA program she presented to young girls.  We played with the Cessna ground school program.  Betty had used Wendy Yost’s tethered  balloon in her program.  All the girls enjoyed a tethered ride.  Betty presented Wendy a gift for her help.

Betty called the business meeting to order at 8:05.

A motion was made to accept the June meeting minutes.

The treasurer’s report was given by Janie McIntire and accepted as read.  Air Race Classic expenses for the Wright Field stop were presented and accepted.  Janet Barnard and Joanne Austin did a superb job of hosting the event.  Thanks also to the members, 49 1/2s and a 33 who helped that weekend.

Betty passed out hats, pins, pens and mouse pads from Med Flight.  Betty promised them an airplane ride (perhaps in her new 172 Cessna which she flew back from Washington state).

Janie displayed a completed monogrammed reversible vest. A motion was presented to buy 30 vests-10 medium, 10 large, and 10 extra large in color tan with the compass rose logo on the front and the 99 near the top of the back with black as the reversible part for $39.50. These will be for sale to our members and at the Fall Sectional meeting.

A motion was made and passed to give $20 each to Dave Melvin and Cliff (?) for their help with acquiring and setting up the computers.

Old Business:

A motion was made and passed to give Scott Weaver $25 for his help with our new display board.

Air Race Classic programs were handed out by Joanne Austin.  She displayed her plaque she received from the ARC headquarters for her help at the Wright field race stop.

Marilynn Miller reminded everyone about the upcoming combined Fall Sectional with the Mid-Atlantic Sectional in Canton, Ohio, Sept. 18-21.  The Waypoint has the information.  Everyone is urged to go and to volunteer a few hours to help in the sales booth.

Compass Rose Painting.  Madison Co. airport still has ½ a rose but according to Joanne Prater, the airport management is going to be resurfacing the area soon and hopes we will do it again next year. This leaves Greene County airport to do this year.  Joanne reports the airport really would like us to paint one there.

Respectfully Submitted,

Constance Copeland, for
Marjorie Anderson, Secretary
