Up, Up, and Away
Janie and Woody continue local flying to Urbana and Neil Armstrong.
Paula R. flew two cohorts from work to Portsmouth for dinner recently.
Amy’s daughter Ellen is back from Kent State for the summer and was itching to
fly! So Ellen flew to Urbana and set the plane up for landing and she and Amy
had a great lunch and flew home in late June.
Jann flew again to St. Louis’s downtown airport for a week of babysitting her
granddaughter and celebrating her first birthday. Jann also took her husband
George, daughter, and daughter’s friend to Toronto for a wedding. She had all
her paperwork together and successfully went through “international” customs!
Dana took control of Juan Haygood’s Cheetah during the BPA visit to Bolton Field
on June 14, flying to and from the Marysville airport where the airplane was
refueled. She saw The 99s compass rose from the sky and reports it looked great!
Joanne has been recuperating from a total knee replacement on June 5 and is
anxious to get back in the Mooney. She did fly to Urbana/Grimes in May and
commercially to San Antonio in May. And much prefers general aviation!
Marjorie flew commercial to Seattle (SEA-TAC), then drove two hours north and
west to Orcas Island for education. During her free time, she enjoyed a whale
watching tour, seeing orca whales, bald eagles, and otters.
Lori flew commercial to Minot, ND, over Father’s Day weekend in June and drove
four hours west to Lewis and Clark country along the Missouri River in
northeastern Montana to visit a friend who was a former bush pilot in Alaska and
Africa. Along with visiting the Fort Peck dam and viewing a number of dinosaur
bones, she joined the Montana Antique Airplane Association for a steak fry
Saturday night and pancake breakfast Sunday morning at the Fort Peck Airport.
The trip culminated in a beautiful hour-long morning flight in a Champ over the
dam, reservoir, and Missouri River, with farmland north of it and badlands to
the south—quite a stirring sight.
