Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s June 14, 2006 meeting
Up, Up, and Away
Paula has been to MFD in the Grumman a couple of times to visit her dad. And
as always, forever, she can often be found out doing practice GPS approaches.
Janet has been flying her 172 and a Colt, locally. She’s also working on
rebuilding a Waco 10!
On Sunday, June 11, Jo-Ann and Jim Prater went to Marion, OH, where a pilot
friend of theirs belongs to the glider club. They took a 35 minute glider ride.
Jo-Ann reports that it was very cloudy.
Connie and Ray Copeland flew to Wichita, KS, for the River Festival and to
attend their granddaughter’s high-school graduation! After a few days back home,
they flew to Walker, MN, to put their annual potato crop in.
Marjorie flew commercial to Dallas, TX, and then drove to Wichita Falls to
spend Mother’s Day with son, Jonathan, at Sheppard Air Force Base. They enjoyed
a static display of vaious Air Force jets.
Jann took a break from instrument lessons and took two friends to the Flying
Turtle in Mansfield.
Janie flew commercial to Orlando for a week’s stay with her sister at Janie
and Woody’s Florida home.
Mary has been working with a friend to convert his Cessna 172 from a
conventional gear to a tailwheel airplane. She also flew her daughter Emily and
her husband, Kevin, to PMH for meals (on two separate occasions).

Report of Standing Committees:
A. Airmarking Committee:
-
We are tentatively scheduled to paint a compass rose at Coshocton Airport
in April 2007.
-
Jo-Ann Prater is still trying to contact the folks at Angel Fire, NM, to
get permission for us to paint one there in September 2007.
B. Scrapbook Committee:
C. Fall 2006 Section Meeting:
- Goody Bags - Janie McIntire verified the order with Scott. We will
purchase canvas tote bags in natural with black embroidery at no extra charge.
- Sport Bags - Janie ordered 25 bags to start at $6.00 each. We can
add more as registrations come in.
- Ball Caps - Janie checked into ball caps at the request of Marilynn
Miller. We can purchase black and khaki caps with interlocking 99s embroidery
at $9 each, no minimum number.
- Name Tags - We already decided on the type and size so all we need
to do is order them. There is still the question of what we will hang them
with. Marjorie Anderson will ask Exec Jet to donate lanyards and Paula Hook
will look for ribbons in her craft room.
- Ohio Quarters - We have over 50 so far.
- Buckeyes - Marjorie Anderson has actual buckeye nuts for the goodie
bags.
- Buckeye Candy - Joann Austin has a recipe. Marilynn and Mary will
purchase boxes.
- Scarves - The blue fabric with silver stars was approved. Mary
Biller will be making them.
- Dress Code - We plan to wear blue and white clothing with our blue
scarves to identify us as hostesses.
- Attendance Sheets - The committee has been discussing how we will
handle attendance issues at the business meeting. At previous section meetings
there was a show of hands but we feel this is not a good way of determining
attendance. It was decided that we will use sign-up sheets. Marjorie will make
up the sheets as well as an summary sheet for the Chairman.
- Signage - The Kansas City chapter passed along the signs for our
use.
- Registration Form - Corrections were made to the registration form.
It has been posted on the Scioto Valley 99s website. It needs to be posted on
the Section website and also in the Waypoint. If there is no summer issue of
the Waypoint we will discuss at the July meeting.
- Decorations
Space Shuttle Model - Jann Bowne purchased one model
but has not been able to find any more like it. Marilynn offered to check the
West Broad Street Hobby Lobby for more. These can be used for the head table
Mars Rover Models - Marilynn Miller is making several
for table decorations.
- OSU Astronomy Department - Paula Hook contacted the department
chair to see if he would be interested in attending our banquet but he was not
interested. He said he would post a notice on the bulletin board to inform
others.
- Hospitality
Kroger Donations - Connie Copeland has not made contact
yet. Marjorie suggested that Connie try more than one Kroger.
Paper plates/cups - Paula Hook will donate her blue
plates and cups.
Menus - Marjorie will try to get the menu from the
hotel before she departs for China.
- 49½ Programs
Paula Hook suggested that we have a list of options
available for the 49 1/2s. She also suggested COSI, Franklin Park, Museum of
Art, Jack Nicklaus Museum
Jann Bowne checked into programs at Highbanks Park. She
spoke to a woman named Susan who said that we can schedule a program for
Saturday morning during the business meeting. We would need to let her know
ahead of time so she can schedule the program.
- Meals
Snacks at Bolton Field - We need to provide snacks and
drinks for early arrivals to tide people over before dinner at JPs.
JP’s Friday night - We can pick two entrees. We need to
find out if JPs can provide meals for special diets and we need to coordinate
this menu with the banquet so we do not duplicate meals.
Saturday Breakfast - Buffet style.
Saturday Lunch - Undecided.
Food for Hospitality Room - Sign-up sheet will be sent
around.
- Transportation - Paula Rumbaugh handling. Mary Biller will ask if
Buckeye Nissan could donate vans for our use.
Announcements:
- Paula Hook is on the Section Committee for the Waypoint. The committee is
trying to determine how to proceed with this publication in the future. The
committee needs us to address the following questions: What is the purpose of
the Waypoint? How should it be distributed? Should it be cut back to three
issues per year? Please give your ideas and suggestions to Paula.
- Jann Bowne introduced her guest, friend and neighbor Dawn. Dawn is a
student pilot taking flying lessons at Delaware Airport.
- A perpetual calendar was submitted by Paula Hook and will appear in the
next 99 News.
- A Business Meeting will be held July 6&7th. We are allowed five delegates
based on our membership. Several amendments will be voted on:
1) Proposal to add new section to classes of membership. The “Associate
Member” would meet the requirements of Section I and pay dues at the associate
member rate. She would not have the same benefits and privileges of a full
member, would not be eligible for scholarships, and would not be able to hold
office.
2) Membership Directory would be mailed to all members except associate
members. This will depend on the whether the first amendment passes.
3) All officers and directors shall serve no more than two consecutive terms.
4) Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum trustees - Proposal to limit terms to
three years from four.
Paula Rumbaugh moved to vote as Board of Directors recommends. Marjorie
Anderson seconded the motion. All in favor, no opposition, motion passed.
Unfinished Business: none
New Business: none
Adjournment: Marilynn Miller made motion to adjourn, Charma
seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Biller, Secretary
