Minutes May 9, 2002

Minutes of the May 9, 2002 meeting

The meeting was called to order by Marilynn Miller.

Present were Jo-Ann Prater, Constance Copeland, Myra Jamison, Barbara Deeds, Janie McIntire, Wendy Yost, Abby Rice, Marilynn Miller and Betty Obara.

The April meeting minutes were approved.

Janie McIntire read her Treasurer's report, which was accepted.

Marilynn Miller and Janie McIntire went to the Spring Sectional meeting. Attending the meeting were 88 members, 1 future pilot, 19 chapters and 1 at-large chapter.

Janie reported: 1. The Fall sectional will be held in Coventry, Kentucky (our chapter members should be able to attend with such a short distance to go).

2. The Waypoint has changed its subscription policy and the subscriptions will be $5 per year.

3. The 99s International Scholarship eligibility: The future woman pilot eligibility starts from the day she joins-the only requirement is that she must have soloed. The 66's don't have the same privilege.

The Dispatch newspaper article April 15th titled Happy landings on flight simulators, our right-seat companion course, pinch hitter course, etc. was discussed.

Eight people have signed up for our Right-Seat Companion course. There were 4 doing ground school, and 4 for the combined ground school and flying.

A note was received from the Amelia Earhart Museum thanking us for our contribution for a brick for the walkway.

We were invited to meet the NIFA teams at Don Scott airport hanger 1 on Thursday May 16.

Barbara Deeds has a new web site-deeds field.

Marilynn reported on the Compass Rose painting at Canon City, CO. The Pueblo West Inn has a group rate of $62 per night.

We discussed dates for a High Tea in Delaware at noon for Sat. June 8 or 15. June 8 was tendered as a possible date. Janie was to check and get back to us.

Jo-Ann Prater invited us to meet at her house on June 1st at 12 noon to attend the free live theatrical techno-thriller "Cockpit Voice Recorder". It is supposed to be an edge-of the-seat show.

Our meeting was adjourned.

Barbara Deeds had a unique program. Each of us was given a glider to assemble and fly, Abby won for the fastest assembly, straightest flight and longest distance. She admitted she had had some practice with her kids. Betty Obara thought the gliders were a great idea and most of us donated theirs to her for a demo. (I didn't. My grandson James enjoyed it on Friday.)

UP, UP and AWAY

Woody and Janie McIntire spent one day at Sun-n Fun last month. We've done some local flying between rainstorms.

The Central Ohio Balloon Club is having a guest, Katherine Sullivan from COSI, on 7/7/02. We would like to extend an invitation to any and all 99 members to come as guests. Our meeting is at Bolton Field, about 7:30 pm.  Please join us!

Betty Obara has been working on her plane from the ribs up. It will be done shortly, Famous last words.
