Approved Minutes, November 8, 2001

The Nov. 8th meeting was called to order by Marilynn Miller.

Present were Danielle Kennedy, Constance Copeland, Marjorie Anderson, Charma Huddy, Paula Rumbaugh, Sue Messina, Emily Lloyd, Wendy Yost and Maxine Staiger.

Sue Messina has a new e-mail address:

The treasurer's report was read. Checking $4185.14. Receipts - dues $32. Total $4217.14. Our CD came due and it was rolled over into a 9 month CD with 6.4% interest rate.

Members were encouraged to apply for the Future Women Pilot A. E. scholarship given by the International 99's. The applicant must have at least 20 hours flying time, a current medical, certificate of solo, and have passed her written test. Anyone interested should contact Marilynn Miller. Each chapter is allowed one applicant.

Don't forget to turn your application to Janie McIntire for our own Alice Jackson Scholarship. The deadline is Nov. 30th.

Marilynn reported on the NIFA woman's award. NIFA wants to assess our chapter $300 toward the award. Marilynn talked to Donna Moore-our North Central Section governor. Donna suggested that all the chapters in the section contribute. Marilynn suggested that this proposal should go on the Spring Sectional Meeting for a vote.

Marilynn contacted the FAA about having a project aware at a safety seminar. We need 6 weeks notification time to prepare a mailing. Feb. 1st or 8th was proposed. Marilynn was to check on the Feb. 8th date.

Sue reminded everyone about next month's meeting-the holiday party. Bring 1. A gift (>$15) marked for a 99 or 491/2 and, if possible, aviation-related 2. A covered dish-if you did not sign up at the meeting call or e-mail Sue (890-3279). 3. A batch of cookies for filling tins for airport tower personnel (no tins are needed) and 4. $3 per person to compensate Sue for the ham and punch. Guests are welcome. Sue needs to know how many are coming.

Up, Up, and Away

Danielle Kennedy-visited friends and family in New Smyrna Beach and attended Embry-Riddle Alumni weekend.

Marjorie Anderson-flew right seat on 2 of 7 legs on the trip to New Mexico. Experienced deviation away from storms (note from Connie-She really did enjoy using the radar), "heavy raindrops" (hail) briefly, and then the bluest sky ever and a full rainbow!

Paula Rumbaugh-flying to Ashland frequently to see my father. Last weekend we both went airborne to take a look at the old farmstead, my old high school, and other locations from my childhood.

Emily Lloyd-began training in complex airplane, November.

Wendy Yost-soloed on October 16, check ride on October 25 for private pilot-balloon. I was the first of 3 balloon students to get my "ticket" and we've been busy working to get the others through before the weather changes. Last weekend I flew my sister on a beautiful morning flight. I am waiting until next spring to fly over my childhood farm (my balloon van isn't quite as well maintained as my balloon.)

Connie Copeland-Ray flew Betty Obara, Marjorie Anderson, and Janie McIntire to New Mexico fo a great long weekend. Marjorie didn't mention that on the way back we saw a refueling going on and as we came into Columbus, a red sunset between the clouds. The balloons were well worth the trip. We took a tour and walk around an old volcano near Raton, a quick tour of Taos with a look-see at the Rio Grande nearby and topped off that trip with eating buffalo burgers at Eagle Nest. The hospitality at The Casa was great.
I want to go back.
