Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s November 13, 2002 meeting
The meeting was called to order by Betty Obara, Chairman.
In attendance were Deborah Sutor, Mary Biller, Terri Vrbancic, Constance Copeland, Janet Barnard, Wendy Yost, Myra Jamison, Janie McIntire, Marilynn Miller, Sue Messina, Betty Obara, Charma Huddy, Abby Rice, Paula Rumbaugh, Marjorie Anderson, and guests, Tana Lantry and Susan Sears (chip-5050@yahoo.com).
The minutes of the October meeting were distributed in the newsletter. Marilynn Miller moved to accept the minutes as distributed. Myra Jamison seconded and so moved. Janie McIntire provided the current treasurer’s report. Wendy Yost moved to accept the report as presented and Deborah Sutor seconded and so moved.
Old Business
· Section Meeting: Janie McIntire and Marilynn Miller were our delegates to the Section Meeting this fall. Janie and Marilynn updated everyone on the Section meeting. The A.E. Scholarship application must be submitted by January 5, 2003. You must be a 99 International member for at least 2 years and be engaged in a career in flying or in research. The complete requirements are on the 99s website. You may now update the directory on line as you have changes. Insurance for Right Seat Companion or any other flying activity is $125 for each day of the event. There were 72 99s, 5 future women pilots, and 18 chapters present. The spring sectional meeting will be May 16 – 18, 2003 in Livonia, MI, which is north of Detroit. Janie has the complete packet of information. The fall sectional meeting will be September 18 – 21 in Canton, OH. They sold 8 shirts, 2 tote bags, several ornaments for a total of $352.00.
· ARC Update: Janie McIntire and Janet Bernard visited three potential hotels and there is an additional possibility as well. Hotels are willing to provide van service or there is also a company that donates vans. The Women’s Business Group may donate food and drinks. Marilynn Miller will coordinate the timing. Joanne is to contact Dayton Commerce. The Women’s Air Race Classic will begin in Pratt, Kansas. Dayton, OH will be the fifth stop, and the terminus will be in Manteo, NC for a total of 1904.5 nautical miles.
· Hostess Sheet: The hostess sheet was re-submitted for everyone to sign.
· Terri Vrbancic is to present Navigational Skills at the February meeting.
· Alice Jackson Scholarship: Six applications have been sent out and none have been returned yet.
New Business
· Janie McIntire reported that Career Day at ODOT will be Friday, Nov. 22, 2002. Set Up begins at 8:00 AM. This is designed to encourage high school students in an aviation related career. Volunteers for this event are Marilynn Miller, Janie McIntire, and Myra Jamison. They will take the display unit, set up, and be present to answer any questions.
· We discussed the possibility of offering a joint flying and educational event with the EAA for kids to participate as part of their Young Eagles project. Wendy offered to tether a balloon as well.
· The annual cookie exchange for the Control Towers was discussed. We will each bring 5 – 6 dozen cookies to the holiday party in order to fill 19 cans this year. Marilynn will bring our business cards to attach.
· Our holiday feast will be at Sue Messina’s home. We will each contribute $3.00 for the ham and then bring a side dish as well. For our gift exchange, please bring an aviation related item (approximate cost: $15) to exchange. If you are also bringing a spouse or significant other, then mark each gift with either a “99” or “49 ˝”.
Marilynn moved to adjourn the meeting and Janie seconded and so moved. Meeting adjourned.
