Up, Up, and Away
Janie and Woody McIntire flew to Michigan for the weekend to visit friends.
Paula Hook created an aviation display case for the Harrisburg Library, an all-volunteer library south of Columbus, to especially honor the Wright Brothers. The display will remain until December 6, 2003.
Janet is working on landing a taildragger on paved runway. Monday night, she obtained night currency.
Paula Rumbaugh managed to get in the requisite six approaches to remain instrument current. Thanks to N9514L partner Terri for safety piloting!
Kama Denney completed her BFR last week at Delaware airport.
Joanne Austin and Glenn Sproat flew his Mooney to Morristown, TN to visit friends and get Joanne “out of the house” as she recoups from knee surgery on November 7, 2003.
Jennifer Billingsley attended the first of hopefully many meetings and reunited with her favorite science teacher. She soloed for the first time as well!
Betty Obara flew to 19 different airports from the top of Ohio to the bottom just for the fun of it and “hugged one of my best students again. What a great feeling!”
Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Betty Obara, Chairman.

Minutes:
The minutes were moved to be accepted as distributed by Myra Jamison, seconded by Marilynn Miller, and accepted.
Treasurer’s Report:
The report was accepted as read by Janie McIntire. Moved to accept by Marilynn Miller and seconded by Marjorie Anderson.
Old Business:
Ground School Instructor: Betty identified Book 1: Fundamental of Instructing for $12.95 and Book 2: Flight and Ground Training for $14.95 for a total of $27.90 through GLEIM.com on the internet. Another option is to purchase the ASA text at Lane Aviation for $19.95. The plan is to make a decision on which books to purchase and to begin study in January 2004. The Fundamentals of Instructing test costs $50.00 and the Flight / Ground School Instructor test cost $30.00.
Kitty Hawk Trip: See Paula Rumbaugh re: finalizing plans. She is planning a possible brunch the Sunday following Thanksgiving to finalize plans.
Janie has vests to sell for our members. These cost $45 each.
Compass Rose Air Marking: Joanne Austin if offering her home for airmarking at Greene County Airport, OH. The dates are Oct. 11 & 12, rain date Oct. 25 & 26, 2003. All are encouraged to participate, enjoy the fun, and give back to the aviation community.
New Business:
New Visitor: We welcome Jennifer Billingsley, student pilot who recently soloed to our meeting. Jennifer was a student in Betty Obara’s science class and was delighted to be with her teacher again. Each holiday, we create tins of cookies to take to the various Towers in central Ohio. Please bring 4 dozen cookies to the December meeting, as well as bows to place on top of the covered coffee cans. Any cans and old charts can be taken to Marilynn Miller as soon as possible. Towers include: CMH tower, CMH radar room, Dayton Tower, Dayton Flight Service Station, Wright Brothers Field, Greene Co., Bolton tower, Bolton Flying Service, OSU Tower, OSU FBO, Madison Co, Delaware Co, Med Flight (2 containers)
Holiday Party: December 10, 2003. Instead of our usual gift exchange, we moved to donate $15.00 (or more) to International Health Service. The money will go for gasoline costs for the airplanes used to bring folk to the medical clinics. Jo-Ann Prater is going to Honduras to assist with medical care provided there. Please make your checks payable to “Scioto Valley 99s” Then a single check will be written for the International Health Service.
Life Line Pilots: Betty provided information on this service. Volunteer pilots take patients and family member to obtain medical care at a distance. These are usually short hops of 200 miles or less one way. You must be a pilot and have insurance. If interested, more information can be obtained on www.aircareall.com You can also explore Angel Flights, which provides a similar service, at www.angelflight.org.
WACO airfield in Troy, OH is interested in having us paint a compass rose on their airfield. Jo-Ann Prater will follow up with them.
Right Seat Companion course: We are beginning to plan for 2004. This course is tentatively set for next autumn.
Forest of Friendship: Discussed plans to travel to the Forest of Friendship June 18 – 20, 2004.
