Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s November 11, 2005 meeting
Up, Up, and Away
Jann and George Bowne participated in the Poker Run for the Breast Cancer
Cure, sponsored by the Cincinnati 99s. They didn’t win any prizes, but had fun
all the same!
Marjorie Anderson continues to fly [to get current again] and is working on
ground-school sessions to learn changes in airspace [since she was last
current]. No good landings to report, yet have walked away from all of them!

Report of Standing Committees:
A. Airmarking Committee:
- We will plan on painting a compass rose at Coshocton in the spring.
- Jo-Ann Prater asked if we would be interested in painting a compass rose
at Angel Fire in New Mexico. We could stay at the Casa. Jo-Ann will check with
the airport to see if they would like us to paint a compass rose for them.
B. Fall 2006 Section Meeting:
The Section Meeting Committee met this month. Items discussed at this
meeting:
- Paula Rumbaugh, Jann Bowne, Marjorie Anderson and Marilynn Miller attended
the Louisville Fall Section Meeting as delegates. They reported that the
meeting broke from tradition and was held a little differently. For example,
they had dinner on Friday night. The guest was from the Professional Pilots
group and the winners of the AE scholarship were presented. Saturday there was
no Chairman’s meeting or round table but there was a business meeting. No
sign-up sheets for attendance – one person from each chapter stood and told
how many people from their chapter attended. The day was spent at the
Churchill Downs racetrack and there was a banquet in the evening. The speaker
was the first woman jockey. They did not have door prizes. At the meeting it
was announced that the international conference will be held in Washington
D.C. and the mid-winter meeting will be held in Chicago. Charlene Falkenberg
will be celebrating her 85th birthday and Donna Moore is looking for a grant
for the 99s Fly for the Cure campaign
- We discussed the following items with regards to our Fall 2006 Section
Meeting:
• Marjorie would like to see a plan of what will
be done each month. Our plans should be ready by spring so that the
registrations can be distributed at the Spring Section Meeting April 28-30.
• Need an agenda for the day
• Need an agenda for the business meeting
• Need program for banquet
• Need name tags
• Registration forms need to be put into the Waypoint
• Keep thinking of ideas for decorations – think of ideas for space flight
beyond what we know (for example Burt Rutan’s Space Ship One)
• It was decided that we will give awards during lunch on Saturday in place of
a speaker
• We will forego door prizes
• We will hold a silent auction
• Nylon pouches to hold nametags and itinerary. Here is a link to website that
sells the pouch: http://www.pcnametag.com/pcnametaglive/catalog.cfm?dest=itempg&itemid=931&secid=57&linkon=section&linkid=57
• Goody Bag Ideas: (Useful items only)
- Marilynn to ask Mark Mulcahey for pens and pads
- Buckeye candy – package of six in each bag. Would like to get a group
together to make them.
- Chamber of Commerce booklet
- Hand-made wooden airplane and/or state wooden ornaments. Jann Bowne
brought in some ornaments that she made and will make some for the goody bags.
Please purchase basswood from Jo-Ann Fabrics or Michael’s. The wood comes in
1/8” – 3/16” and is sold in 4 x 24” sheets. She also made an airplane out of
wood and could possibly make space shuttles or mars rovers.
- Ohio quarters have a spaceman on them. Please save them for the goody
bags.
• Still need to decide on activity for the 49 1/2ers. Ideas so far include a
driving range, Jack Nicklaus museum, tour of MAG (Midwestern Auto Group)
• Friday night activity has not been decided. Paula Rumbaugh still likes the
idea of the zoo for Friday night and will investigate further. Another idea
for Friday night is the Arnett Howard band at JPs at Bolton Field.
• Sunday morning will consist of a continental breakfast and weather for
pilots.
