Up, Up, and Away
Marjorie Anderson and 49-1/2 Jack enjoyed a flight to Raton, New Mexico, with
Connie and Ray Copeland. Marjorie flew right seat for six legs and had a
wonderful experience! After returning to Columbus, she flew commercial to
Washington, D.C. for a conference, including her 1st First Class experience! For
the record, right seat is way better!!!!
Charma and John Huddy were also thrilled to fly with Connie and Ray, along with
Marjorie and Jack, to Raton, New Mexico, in October. They thoroughly enjoyed the
flight and the fantastic weekend at the Casa del Gavilan. Jo-Ann and Jim Prater
were wonderful hosts!
Lori Robishaw’s New Mexico trip, which ended at the Casa, began earlier that
week with a dawn balloon launch during the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. “We
launched with nearly 100 other balloons and it was a stunning sight and a
magnificent flight.”
Jann and George Bowne also went via commercial air to Albuquerque, New Mexico,
for the Balloon Fiesta, spent a day in Santa Fe, then went on for a wonderful
weekend at the Casa. Jann also flew herself to Cahokie, Illinois, to spend a
week babysitting her four-month-old granddaughter. On the return flight, Indiana
and Ohio were both IFR, so she used that instrument rating (again!) to descend
through the clouds and shoot the ILS into TZR (Bolton).
Myra Jamison spent the month of October in Colorado Springs, visiting her
daughter after a weekend at the Casa in NM. “We hiked in the Rocky Mountain
National Park in beautiful weather. Then it snowed. We always have a great time
together!”
Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Myra Jamison at 7:30 pm.
There were two corrections to the minutes of the last meeting:
1. Paula Hook is running for the Nominating Committee of the North Central
Section, not for International.
2. It is Paula Rumbaugh, rather than Paula Hook, who will work with Charma Huddy
to produce a new roster.
The minutes were then accepted as corrected.

Report of Standing Committees:
Old Business:
• New name badges: Charma showed a sample of the new badge and
layout. There was a question as to whether to include wings at the top (too
military looking) or the block 99s. All agreed we should go with the 99s, with
blue text on a white background. Charma will get permission from
International, to be on the safe side. The cost of each is $9.50. Charma moved
that the chapter absorb the cost of new badges for everyone on the Scioto
Valley roster. Marilynn Miller seconded the motion, which then passed.
• The next meeting is the Christmas party, at which we will again pack
home-baked cookies for area FBOs. Charma will again provide the empty coffee
cans and pretzel jars. Jann Bowne and Paula Rumbaugh will supply charts in
which to wrap the containers, and the wrapping will be done ahead of time. A
list was circulated to get names and numbers of party attendees and what each
will bring for the potluck dinner.
• IHS: Jo-Ann Prater explained for those new to the chapter what the
International Health Service (IHS) is and why the chapter makes a Christmas
donation to the group. Members had previously agreed to once again donate to
this organization in lieu of a Christmas gift exchange. Checks should be made
out to the Scioto Valley 99s.
• Roster: Paula Rumbaugh reported that a new roster draft had been
completed and distributed for two reviews. She will send out the roster in the
next few days.
New Business:
• Nominating committee It is time to put together a new slate of
officers, for the 2008-2010 term. Paula Rumbaugh volunteered to chair a
nominating committee.
• Our guest, Kim Bruce, was introduced and we each, in turn, introduced
ourselves to her. Amy Yersavich met Kim at the Youth Aviation event and
invited her to our group.
• Charma announced that she had her photographs of the October Casa trip with
her.
Adjournment: Marilynn Miller moved the meeting be adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Rumbaugh, for
Mary Biller, Secretary
