Up, Up, and Away:
Christine Mortine went to Kent State to visit her daughter, and the flight home was IFR—in fact, they gave her a different route than she filed, so that was a first for her as she just got her instrument rating in late June). She also flew seven Young Eagles out of Shelby the week before the meeting.

Jann Bowne flew to Cahokia, Illinois, to watch her granddaughter and enjoy Halloween. She also flew with Meredith Frederick to West Cincinnati for dinner with Meredith’s mom.

Meredith Frederick had a good time flying with Jann at I67. Jann even let her fly the C-182 down to get night currency!

Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Jann Bowne, who passed around a sign-up sheet for the holiday party.

Attendance: Myra Jamison, Constance Copeland, Paula Rumbaugh, Christine Mortine, Mary Biller, Paula Hook, Jann Bowne, Jo-Ann Prater, Teresa Freeman, Meredith Frederick, and Lori Robishaw. Connie’s granddaughter Caroline Homes joined us as a guest.

Minutes of Previous Meeting: The minutes of the October meeting were approved as distributed.

Treasurer’s Report:   The treasurer’s report was presented by Paula Hook. Paula got a thank-you letter from the International Health Service for our donation last year. There was consensus among the members present to again make a donation to IHS this year in lieu of a holiday gift exchange. Paula reminded the chapter that we still had aprons and mugs available for sale with both The 99s logo and “I’d rather be flying.”

Old Business:

“Amelia”:
•  Along with the many members of the chapter who had the chance to go to the free screening of Amelia on October 22, many other chapters around the country also had the same opportunity. There was a good deal of national and local press about Amelia Earhart, the film, and women pilots.

Report of Standing Committees: 

• Airmarking:
  •  No update.
• Scholarship:
  •  Paula Rumbaugh reported that the updated flyer for the Alice Jackson Scholarship had been posted to the website, and she passed out flyers to those in attendance to distribute to local airports and FBOs. The deadline for applications is January 15.
• Right Seat Companion:
  •  No update.

New Business:

• North Central Section:
  •  Paula H. drove to Grand Rapids for the Fall Section Meeting. She reported that 13 of the section’s 18 chapters had members present.
  •  The section did very well in hosting the International Conference in Chicago and netted more than $7,000. Because of the ongoing problems concerning the International Headquarters building in Oklahoma City, the section voted to contribute $2,000 to the building fund.
  •  Paula asked us to consider any nominations we may have for section awards, as well as any potential Amelia Earhart Scholarship applicants.
  •  The All-Ohio Chapter is hosting the Spring Section Meeting April 23-25 at the Airport Marriott at CMH. The meeting will include a tour of NetJets, dinner at the 94th Aero Squadron, and a presentation by one of Joan’s former students, Lorri Hughes Pritchard, a program manager at Flight Safety. The banquet speaker will be CarolAnn Garratt, who recently flew around the world with Carol Foy, shattering the world record for a single engine piston by circling the globe in only 8½ days as they raised money for ALS.
  •  Paula H. will be a candidate for vice governor of the North Central Section.
  •  The section is considering another cooperative meeting, this time with the Southeast Section, for Fall 2010, probably in either Nashville or Memphis.

Announcements:

• Jann asked for volunteers to serve on the nominating committee starting in January to prepare for our elections in April. Those interested in serving should let her know.
• Jann also asked members to think about potential nominations for the several awards given annually at the International Conference; awards are given both to 99s and no-99s. She will forward the specific information on criteria for selection to the chapter.
