The Oct. 11th meeting was called to order by Paula Rumbaugh. Marilynn Miller was on her way via Albuquerque, New Mexico. (Ask for her version of the start of the trip-better yet ask Sandra Dearth).
Present were Susan Schmaltz, Danielle Kennedy, Emily Lloyd, Constance Copeland, Maxine Staiger (guest of Marilynn ), Wendy Yost, Betty Obara, Janie McIntire, and Paula Rumbaugh.
Paula reported that the NIFA wanted to change the trophy award to the top woman pilot given by the All-Ohio chapter to a scholarship. The scholarship would come from all the Ohio chapters by assessing each chapter $300.
The Right-Seat companion course was tentatively set for May 4-6 2001.
Janie reported no activity in applications for the Alice Jackson scholarship.
Janie still has some aviation totes ($15) and Christmas ornaments ($8) for sale.
Emily Lloyd did get to Burke Lakefront airport for the section fly-in but only by driving in bad weather. She said that the event was well attended.
Our business meeting was short, perhaps because Betty Obara had displayed some African masks and sculptures on a table.
We adjourned to enjoy her talk and film on South Africa. She told of having to take a course, test and flight checkout before taking off cross-country to various A-1 camps and resorts. She ended up with 10 hrs. flying time to log and some great memories.
Fruit bread and cookies were served by Susan Schmaltz.
Up, Up, and Away
I flew around 1700 NM through S. Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. It was an unbelievable trip. Hopefully I can do something like that again. Betty Obara.
(Paula, I didn't include the treasures report-I hope you got it to insert. Also the theme of the meeting-I traded with Myra who can't be there-will be hanger flying the Albuquerque balloon festival. I would like to hear from the balloonists that were trying to fly. I'd like photos, tales, and tall tales.
