Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s October 8, 2003 meeting
Up, Up, and Away
Janie and Woody McIntire flew their Bonanza to Greene County airport to watch the National Air Tour planes come in. It was a beautiful sight to see!
Terri Vrbancic recently fed her aerobatic addiction with a flight in “the Pitts” and also attended a workshop on how to cover and repair a fabric airplane.
Janet Barnard flew into Greene County airport to see the National Air Tour. I unfortunately had to leave early, but as I waited to take off at the hold-short line, three Ford Trimotors flew in formation right by me—absolutely wonderful!

New Business:
A present was given to Janet Barnard and JoAnn Austin for their wonderful job at the stop of the Air Race Classic. They received Galileo Thermometers.
Janie McIntire gave a report on the Section meeting she attended with Paula Rumbaugh. The attendance was very disappointing. There were only 47 Ninety-Nines in attendance at the business meeting. There was discussion of having one section meeting in lieu of two as we do now. Also it was discussed that the International Conference be changed from July as it has been in the past to some other time with more favorable weather.
Lake Michigan chapter has been dissolved. This put us in another position of being in line for a Section meeting. No decision was made for any action at this time. The Forest of Friendship was mention as a good place for a chapter fly-out June 18-20, 2004. More information is in the latest Waypoint. They also suggested that each Chapter plan some event for the 100th anniversary of flight to bring attention to the public.
The Spring section meeting April 16 – 18, 2004 will be in Chesterfield, MO with the theme of “Meet Me In St. Louis”. The Fall Section meeting October 16 – 1 7will be in South Bend, IN.
Kay Hoelting told about an essay contest for children grade 3 thru 12 on why Dayton and Ohio should be proud of being aviation’s birthplace. Contact Kay if you have a child that is interested in participating.
Marilynn Miller presented the idea to the Chapter that in lieu of a gift exchange at our annual Christmas Party we give the $15.00 we would normally spend on a gift to JoAnn Prater to take with her when she and Jim go to Honduras February 13th thru 27th,. JoAnn works with the International Health Services, which is based in Minneapolis. She will be working in the OR at the hospital in Honduras. They fly the patients in from all the remote areas, perform the medical procedures, and transport them back to their homes. They are always in need for money for fuel for the planes and this is what the donation would be used for. Jim is going along as a “Jack of all Trades”. We all know how great he is at that.
Our speakers, Sarah Rickman and Nadine Nagel (a WASP), were ready to give their program so a motion was made by Myra Jamison to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Connie Copeland. Motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilynn Miller, Secretary Pro Tem
