Up, Up, and Away
Marjorie volunteered for Young Eagles at Bolton and enjoyed flying right seat
with Jann in her plane. She also participated in the Gathering of Mustangs &
Legends.
Jann took Paula Hook in her Cessna 182 to Duluth, MN for the North Central
Section Meeting September 21-23. They saved time by flying direct and crossing
over Lake Michigan (life jackets under the seats). Jann also participated in
Young Eagles in September and YAA at OSU on October 6.
Mary flew commercial to Boulder, CO to attend the Amelia Earhart Scholarship
Banquet at the International 99s meeting. While there, she had the opportunity
to take a sightseeing flight with a friend into the mountains and around the
Boulder/Denver area. Also flew with friends to Mount Victory for dinner one
evening.

Volunteers worked in ticket sales
New Business:
• Nominating committee needs to be formed at the beginning of the
year. Voting for new officers takes place in April for June inductions.
• Paula Hook volunteered to be on the nominating committee for the
International 99s. Marilynn Miller made a motion for the Scioto Valley 99s to
stand behind Paula in her bid for the nominating committee. All in favor;
motion passed.
• Fall Section Meeting – Duluth, MN
• Jann Bowne and Paula Hook flew in Jann’s airplane to Duluth, MN
to attend the North Central Section’s Fall Meeting. While there, they toured
the Cirrus plant. Lucky Jann won a flight and logged one hour of flight time
in a Cirrus!
• Business meeting – Chairman’s report missing.
• Locations of future International meetings:
- 2008 – Anchorage
- 2009 – Chicago
- 2010 – Hawaii
- 2011 – Oklahoma City
- 2012 – Russia or Italy
• IRS needs more information with regards to 501(3)(c). Contact
Charlene Falkenburg.
• By-laws were voted on. Refer to website to find out what passed
and what didn’t.
• The Greater Detroit and Michigan Chapters have merged.
• Spinning Prop Award – Keep track of how many hours you have
flown.
• Governor’s Award – start thinking about it.
• Waypoint
– Paula Hook is on the Waypoint committee. The Waypoint
will no longer be printed - it will be accessible online only. Also, there
will be no Fall Waypoint this year.
– Part of our chapter dues goes to our subscription to
the Waypoint but we won’t need to give money for that anymore. We need to
decide what to do with the extra money.
• Section Meetings are currently held three times per year –
spring, fall, and mid-winter. It was suggested that the mid-winter meeting be
combined with another meeting, making two meetings per year instead of three.
Let them know of any objections by December.
• The Spring Section Meeting will be held in Osceola, Iowa. A
balloon factory tour and winery banquet is on the agenda.
• The Fall Section Meeting, hosted by Women with Wings Chapter,
will be held in Newark, OH at the Cherry Valley Lodge.
• Jann and Paula attended safety seminars at the meeting.
• The banquet speaker was aerobatic pilot Julie Clark. She is a
retired airline captain with 66 ratings.
• Banquet attendees received an agate necklace.
• Our chapter is signed up to work on signs for the International
meeting in Chicago in 2009.
• Mid-Winter Section Meeting will be held in Chicago, IL
• Chapter Roster: Paula Hook and Charma are updating the chapter
roster.
• Christmas Party: Mary and Kevin Biller will be hosting the Christmas
party again this year. Please bring six-dozen cookies to fill the cookie tins
that will be distributed to the area FBOs and control towers.
• Youth Aviation Adventure. Amy, Jann, and Mary helped out with the
Youth Aviation Adventure program at OSU airport October 6. The program is
designed to introduce children to the world of aviation. Jann’s airplane was
on display at the preflight station taught by Jann and Mary. Amy was host to a
group of six Girl Scouts, taking them around to each of the training stations.
Jill Williams, the International Aerospace Education Chair, flew in from
Dallas to attend the program. She maintains the Aerospace Section on the 99s
website which provides established aviation education programs.
