Janie reported that she has closed the old checking account.
Air Race Classic: Janet Barnard announced: “It’s official! Dayton will be included as a stop at the ARC to be held in 2003.” More information will be coming! What a great way to celebrate one hundred years of aviation!
New Business:
The Fall Board meeting of the 99s will be in Oklahoma City. The International Conference of 99s will be in New Zealand in 2005.
We discussed teaching each other about various aspects of flying to keep our personal skills more current. Also this information could be included in the monthly newsletter. Perhaps, every other month we could include some teaching or book reviews, sharing topics of interest in aviation. Wendy Yost agreed to write the first article on ballooning. Amy agreed to write about preparing to fly into Canada.
Betty Obara will be unable to attend our October meeting. She will be flying in New Zealand with an instructor to learn more about mountain flying. She is to play in the World Master Games for Badminton.
Amy reported that her speaker for this meeting was unable to attend at the last minute. She is still available to speak at a future meeting. Please see Amy if interested. Amy’s daughter, Ellen, has become a member of the Civil Air Patrol and is studying different modules in aviation. Congratulations to Ellen!
Marilynn moved to adjourn the meeting. After seconding, the motion passed and the meeting was adjourned.
Our thanks to Amy for the delicious treats and cider she brought for us to enjoy!
Meeting adjourned.
Up, Up, and Away
Chuck & Barb Deeds flew to Carrol County Airport for their Anniversary and had lunch at the Blue Bird Farm Estates. On September 11th while in Reno, Nevada, they flew gliders north of Reno.
Amy Yersavich flew two women for their first flights in a small plane. Laura, who flew with Amy on Sept. 1 is a classmate of her daughter, Ellen, and has dreams of becoming an Air Force fighter pilot. Ildi, one of Amy’s co-workers, flew to that thriving aviation metropolis of Urbana on Sept. 8.
Paula Rumbaugh and Hal flew the Traveler to the Wooster (Wayne Co.) Airport on Labor Day, for lunch with father, Paul, at the Amish Door.
Marilynn Miller flew commercial to Fresno and on to San Jose. Son Ron was awarded the Hugo Award (Science Fiction) at the World Congress. This is determined by a world wide vote.
Deborah Sutor flew numerous trips in August, including a trip to Cedar Point, a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia, and two trips to Cincinnati for tennis tournaments. Also, flew commercial to New York City for a few days of U.S. Open Tennis. I was in the air more than on the ground in August, or so it seemed!
Wendy Yost has had limited balloon adventures due to the very hot weather. (It really decreases the payload). She did a tether for her workplace picnic and also entered her first rally in Delaware. They have an upcoming event in Plain City and she’s hoping fall weather will be great and she’ll get more flights in. She also loaned her balloon out for a student pilot to solo! Julie was ready last fall when 9/11 occurred and so she was delayed a year in her attempt. She needs to practice, so if you see Wendy’s balloon, it may or may not be her!
Janie and Woody McIntire did some local flying to Janie’s parents and for various lunch and / or breakfasts.
Jo-Ann and Jim Prater flew commercial to Salt Lake City in August. A two-week trip on a tour bus took them to five different National Parks. They saw Park City and spent two days in Salt Lake City. Flew commercial back to CMH.
Janet Barnard has just been checked out in the Piper Archer. She has had fun practicing grass strip landings at Waynesville and Middletown and doing some night flights from Dayton Wright Brothers to OSU and back.
Respectfully Submitted,
Marjorie Anderson, Secretary
