Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s September 12, 2007 meeting

Up, Up, and Away

Deborah Mason: Deborah is taking lessons 2-3 times a week. She recently traveled to Gatlinburg, TN, with her husband. She has also lately stopped at Bellefontaine, Delaware, and Madison Co.

Constance Copeland: Connie and Ray recently flew to Ft. Wayne, IN, for lunch.

Dana Rogers: Dana took Sky Bus for the first time, expecting to fly into Jacksonville, FL, but the plane landed in St. Augustine! Otherwise it was a fantastic flight.

Jann and George Bowne: Flew to Bar Harbor, MN, for vacation in August. On the return trip, they followed the Maine coast (beautiful from the air) and across Boston Harbor to spend a day on Cape Cod, visiting a friend. The last leg included a stop for fuel and lunch with a friend in Bridgeport, CT, which required an approach and departure in IMC. After 2 hours in the clouds, they finally broke out. Lots of good instrument practice!

Janie and Woody: They’ll be flying “IFR,” literally, to Florida this year in the Corvette. Janie says they’ll see how much they miss the plane this winter.

Paula Rumbaugh and Hal Flew commercially (South African Airway) to Johannesburg in August. Internally, they flew from Johannesburg to Knysna, on the southeastern coast, then to Durban, on the Indian Ocean.

International meeting in Boulder, CO. Lori asked if we would be represented. Mary will be attending for the official announcement of scholarship winners.

New name badges: We decided to look into getting new ones for everyone. We’ll keep the shape of the state of Ohio, but see if we can get the magnetized tags. Lori suggested we put the name at the top, this time, in larger letters, and the chapter name below.
Cookies for Christmas: We will do the cookie baking, packing, and delivery again this year. Charma will begin collecting coffee tins. The project was described for the benefit of our guests.

Youth Aviation Adventure: Jann talked to the coordinator of this even, which is to be held at the OSU airport on October 6. Jann, Amy Yersavich, and Mary Biller will also be helping out. EAA will give rides to the youth after the event. Members discussed the sorts of events that volunteers can help with.
