Minutes of the Scioto Valley 99s September 9, 2009 meeting
Up, Up, and Away:
Janie and Woody McIntire have done some local flying to restaurants and to
Janie’s parents.
Jann and George Bowne flew to Illinois for Labor Day weekend with the family and
granddaughter.
Meredith Frederick flew to Elkins, West Virginia, on a long IFR cross-country.
She said the LOA-C approach over the mountains was exciting!

The meeting was called to order by Jann Bowne. She thanked everyone
for getting themselves to our new meeting place, and also thanked Meredith for
arranging to have the use of the rooms.
Attendance:
Myra Jamison,
Mary Biller, Jann Bowne, Joan Mace, Janie McIntire, Paula Hook, Fleda Anderson,
Lori Robishaw, Meredith Frederick, and Marjorie Anderson. Myra’s daughter
Carolyn Jamison joined us as a guest.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: The minutes of the July meeting were
approved as distributed.
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report was presented
by Paula Hook.
Old Business:
Report of Standing Committees:
- Airmarking:
• No updates.
- Scholarship:
• No updates.
- Right Seat
Companion:
• Janie reported that we had only one
registration so far and only three inquiries.
• Lori checked with International’s legal counsel, who said we could not
allow a 15-year-old to participate due to potential liability issues.
• More publicity had gone out on the CMH Notams list-serv for central
Ohio aviators as well as the OSU Airport newsletter and website.
• The hope was that more registrations would come in before the deadline
of Sept. 23.
• Janie passed around a sign-up sheet for food and helpers for the
weekend and reminded everyone to wear their 99s nametags. Lori was to send an
e-mail to chapter members asking them to contact Janie to sign up if they
weren’t at this meeting.
New Business:
- Jann said she would host the holiday party for the December meeting and
reminded everyone to be collecting appropriate cans for the holiday “Cookies
To The Tower” distribution to local ATC towers and FBOs.
- Lori passed around a sheet for members to sign up to host next year’s
meetings.
- North Central Section:
• The Fall Section Meeting will be October
23-25 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and hosted by the Michigan Chapter. Jann is
planning on flying there but isn’t sure if she’ll be going from Columbus or
from her son’s home in Illinois.
• Jann asked Lori to send out the section meeting registration info to
chapter members via e-mail.
• Jann reminded us that all chapters in the section are being asked to
put their history in the “Waypoint” newsletter. Scioto Valley did a history
for the chapter’s 25th anniversary, which was in 2006. We need to find that so
it can be updated; if anyone has it, please contact Jann.
• The All-Ohio Chapter is hosting the Spring Section Meeting at the
Marriott at CMH. The meeting will include a tour of Net Jets, and one of
Joan’s former students will be a featured speaker.
- Joan will be featured in an upcoming issue of The 99s News.
Announcements:
-
Paula H. noted that International board member Virginia Harmer had received the
President’s Award at the International Conference. Soon after Virginia was
elected to the board she attended the North Central Section meeting that our
chapter hosted and was very gracious to us, so Paula passed around a
congratulatory card for all the members to sign.
-
Lori found out that the new movie Amelia, starring Hilary Swank, premieres on
October 23, which is also the weekend of the Fall Section Meeting.
-
Jann received a nice thank you note from the co-chairs of the International
Conference in Chicago for the excellent signs; they were so good (and flexible)
that they are going to be used in Hawaii at next year’s conference.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Lori Robishaw, Secretary
