Minutes of the Sept. 12, 2001 meeting

Marilynn Miller called the meeting to order at 7:07.  7 members were present.

The minutes of last meeting were approved as read.

The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

A motion was made and approved to pay the printing bill for Alice Jackson Scholarship leaflets and application forms.

Janie brought in some of the completed embroidered shirts—great job—but we were not allowed to buy them until after the Sectional meeting. Most of us signed up to get a shirt at the next meeting.

A motion was made—in line of security—not to include the treasurer’s report in the minutes going e-mail. For those who were not at the meeting, if you have a need to know contact Janie McIntire.

Three members were going to the Fall Sectional meeting at Fort Wayne.  We were hoping to sell a lot of our shirts.

Old business: Janie has applications for the Alice Jackson Scholarship . If you know of anyone who could apply—please help her out and get her to do so. There are restrictions –like becoming a member of 99’s and a member of our group.

Janie is waiting for the money promised her for the decorated plates that she sold at the August picnic.

Our meeting was adjourned and we enjoyed—no I’d say we flew with Deborah Sutor as she took us in our imagination to Houston Texas to the ‘unusual Attitude’ flight -training course she took. She had a video taken of her flights but the equipment in the room wasn’t cooperating. She will bring it back. Plus everyone needed to talk about the events of the previous day. For those that were not there—her mom makes the best Cherry dessert.

 UP, UP and AWAY

Janie and Woody went to Put-in-Bay and the new restaurant at Bluffton.

Jo-Ann and Jim will be leaving for Vancouver, B.C. via commercial airline for 4 days. Then they will be taking a cruise ship to Hawaii. They’ll fly back to Columbus on the 5th of Oct. (It was a tough decision for them to make to fly. Friends of theirs backed out of the trip because of the World Tower crashes)

Paula and friend Hal flew to Stratford, Ontario, for a weekend of plays. Not such pleasant flying that weekend, but the Shakespeare was excellent.

Connie and Ray flew to Waukesha, WI over the Labor Day weekend. We met our daughter’s family who drove up and Wichita son and daughter to surprise the youngest son with a birthday party—a few weeks early. We went to Chicago to the Science Museum. After going along the shoreline viewing the sparsely populated park system along the lake on a beautiful warm day, I could not see that Chicago needs Meigs field for another park.  On the way back from Wisconsin the next day we had 2 granddaughters who decided to fly with us instead of driving with their parents.

Myra and friend visited the Middlesboro Airport in southern Kentucky to view a restored P38 that was rescued from the Greenland icecap after being buried for 45 years. About 90% of it is made of the original parts. They’ve tested the engines so it is about ready to fly. My friend’s uncle, ‘Kelly’ Johnson, designed the aircraft way back in the days of the “skunk works” in California.
